Time: 1 to 4 minutes
Prep: Remove one seat from the circle
If you need a quick, energizing activity that gets kids moving and connecting, The Wind Comes and Blows is a perfect go-to. It works like a friendly version of musical chairs and builds quick thinking, awareness, and social interaction.
To start, arrange chairs in a circle and remove one. Everyone finds a seat except you.
Stand in the center and say:
“The Wind comes and blows for anyone who…”
Finish the sentence with something students can say “yes” to. Example prompts:
- “…is wearing red.”
- “…has a sibling.”
- “…likes art class.”
- “…had cereal for breakfast.”
Anyone who can say “yes” immediately gets up and finds a new seat while you try to grab one too. The person left standing becomes the next caller and makes a new statement that starts the next round.
Encourage students to choose inclusive, creative categories to keep the game fun and welcoming. Play a few rounds to give everyone a turn in the center.
A quick reset for the room. A boost of connection. A moment that brings the group together before diving into the day.
