The Heart of MNW Elementary

Every once in a while, we meet a school leader whose passion for connection feels contagious. Leaders who remind us why relationships should be the heartbeat of every school building. This week’s Friday Feature comes from Manson Northwest Webster Elementary School in Iowa, where Principal Jason Lampe is leading with intention, compassion, and a whole lot of heart.

Back in October, MNW staff spent the day with us learning how to use the First Five and Classroom Circles to build relationships and strengthen a sense of belonging inside the classroom. What’s happened since then has been nothing short of inspiring.

This December, the campus launched their D.E.C. initiative, Drop Everything and Circle, and the results are exactly what every school administrator and classroom educator hopes for. Jason recently shared that his teachers are all in and building community one circle at a time. The stories coming out of classrooms are powerful. Jason shared with us that he has lost count of how many teachers have come to him with meaningful stories about students opening up, connecting with their peers, and saying that circles help them feel welcomed, safe, and truly part of the MNW community.

But the best part?
Jason didn’t keep this magic contained to classrooms.

He invited the school board into the experience. Together with help from students and staff, the school board was led through a full circle. The circle brought laughter, connection, and a few moments of reflection that reminded everyone why community matters. Beautiful moments like this are what can happen when a school leans fully into community, belonging, and the courage to try something new.

Their recent Facebook post captured the spirit perfectly:
”A look at MNW Elementary’s DECember Initiative – Drop Everything & Circle! …teachers learned how to do circles with their students, focusing on building relationships and social-emotional skills.

We care. We inspire. We empower.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Bravo Jason and the entire MNW team! Thank you for reminding us that when educators lead with connection, they don’t just change classrooms; they transform communities. It was an honor to learn alongside you, and we can’t wait to see the ripples your work continues to create.
