Thursday Roundup: Something Spooky Is Coming

Blogs, Thursday Roundup
Oct 21, 2026
You can only choose one: which snack are you picking at the Halloween party? Six Halloween treats, numbered 1 to 6, from a past First Five Spooky Edition.

One of our favorite First Five traditions is almost here.

Our Spooky Editions return with Part 1 on October 29 and Part 2 on October 30, and year after year, they’re some of our most popular editions.

For two days, the First Five gets a spooky makeover, with themed Memes, Questions, Quick Connects, activities, and plenty of opportunities for students to laugh, talk, and connect.

But we also know that not every educator, student, school, or community is into all things spooky. That’s completely okay. Just like every year, we’ll have alternate editions available on both days featuring regular First Five content with no spooky theme.

Choose the version that works best for your students.

A Few Spooky Favorites

While we wait for October 29, we pulled together a few favorites from Spooky Editions of years past. From debating the best Halloween snack and spooky movie to discovering your ridiculous Halloween name, these are the kinds of activities that have made these editions so much fun.

Five favorites from past First Five Spooky Editions: What Is Your Scary Halloween Name, Best Spooky Movie, On a Scale of Pumpkin How's It Going, Best Costume, and the group costume dogs meme

And don’t worry, there’s plenty of brand-new spooky content coming this year too.

A New Way to Bring First Five Into Your School

Have you checked out our new First Five Live YouTube channel yet?

First Five Live features peaceful, easy-listening classroom loops that can play in the background while students arrive, work independently, transition between activities, or simply need something calm on the screen. They can work in classrooms, but we can also picture them playing in hallways, cafeterias, libraries, and other shared spaces around your school.

And, of course, we made one for spooky season.

Our Halloween Classroom Loop gives you 25 minutes of calm, positive First Five-style prompts with a little seasonal feel mixed in.

Ask Eddy Question of the Week

Each week, our on-site helper, Eddy, gets tons of questions from educators looking for help finding resources, using our Teacher Tools, or coming up with new ways to make Edtomorrow content work in their classrooms. Each Thursday, we share one real question that was asked to Eddy, along with the answer.

This week’s question:

“Under the Questions, what are Shallow Questions and Middle Questions?”

Think of them as different levels of conversation. Shallow Questions are fun, low-risk questions that make it easy for everyone to jump in. Middle Questions go a little deeper and ask students to share more of themselves or their thinking.

You’ll also see a First Five Favorite, our highlighted question for the day. Use the different levels to choose what feels right for your students and your classroom in that moment.
