Think pair pass activity

How It Works: Students think of their answer and pair up to share. After sharing, they “pass” their partner’s answer to another student by finding a new pair and sharing what their last partner said (instead of their own answer). The goal is to see how accurately the answers travel across the room.

Step 1: Individual Think Time
After posing the question to the class, give students 30 seconds to silently think about their answer. Encourage them to reflect and prepare to share what they want to say.

Step 2: Pair and Share
Have students find a partner and share their answer. Each student should take turns speaking and listening, giving their partner full attention. Provide 1-2 minutes for this exchange.

Step 3: Partner Switch and Pass
After both partners have shared, prompt them to move around the room and find a new partner. When they meet their new partner, instead of sharing their own original answer, they must explain what their previous partner said.

Step 4: Debrief and Class Share
Gather the class back together and ask a few volunteers to share what they remember about their last partner’s answer. Emphasize active listening by highlighting who was able to recall their partner’s response accurately.
