Four corners activity

The daily videos and quotes shared in the First Five often offers ideas or, at times, statements that allow us to share our opinions. Four Corners Debate can bring this to life! Simply display the statement or idea where all can see it. Then, guide students to choose a corner of the room representing their opinion on what was shared. Label the corner with these four options:

Strongly Agree
Agree
Disagree
Strongly Disagree

From here, if time allows, ask for a volunteer, or even a volunteer from each corner, to elaborate on why they chose the corner they did.

You can decide whether to join one of the corners, too! Sometimes, I choose a corner where I may have differing opinions to add a bit of life to the conversation!

Four Corners Debate can get classrooms to discuss different ideas quickly. This strategy is best utilized when there is already an established level of trust amongst you and the students. We also get real-life experience listening to opinions and counterarguments!
