Start a Streak Your Class Will Want to Protect

There is something about a number that keeps climbing.

Ask any teacher who has watched a class get protective over a countdown, a chart, or a jar of marbles. Once students can see the streak, nobody wants to be the reason it ends.

That is the whole idea behind First Five Streaks.

How Streaks Work

You, as the teacher, open the First Five each school morning and your streak grows by one.

Miss a school day and the daily streak resets, but not your total points.

That is it. No setup, no tracking sheet, nothing extra to remember. Just a simple reason to make connection the first thing you do every day.

Put the streak up where your class can see it and watching the number climb becomes part of the morning routine. Your best streak is saved too, so there is always something to beat.

You Are Probably Already Earning Points

Here is the part most people miss. Everything you do on our site already earns points that add to your overall streak score.

  • Open the day’s First Five: +5, and your streak grows by one
  • Tap the icons above an activity, like flip, draw, crown, or timer: +1 each, up to 3 a day
  • Play the daily EdGame: +2
  • Visit a classroom tool like EdBoard, EdCards, EdQuiz, the EdGames Hub, or a game show: +2 each, up to 2 a day
  • Read a post here on the blog: +1 a day
  • Finish a perfect week, all five school days: +10, awarded Friday

Streak milestones pay out on top of that. Five days earns 10 bonus points, 10 days earns 20, 25 days earns 50, 50 days earns 100, and 100 days earns 250.

First Five Plus members earn a +5 bonus every day they show up.

The Leaderboard

Give your class a name and you can see how your streak stacks up against classrooms across the country.

Leaderboards run by season and reset each Fall, Spring, and Summer. Lifetime points never reset, so nothing you earn disappears.

Prizes, All Year Long

This is our favorite part.

Every season, the top 10 classes on the leaderboard win. And every class that reaches a 20-day streak is entered into a drawing.

You do not need to be first to win. You just have to show up.

And we have some big things planned for this semester’s prizes.

We’ll be announcing more in the coming weeks once everyone is back in school, but if you’ve already started building your streak, you have an advantage over everyone waiting until September.

Take advantage of the head start and earn every Streak point you can. You do not want to see what we announce and wish you had started sooner!

Fresh prizes, drawings, and giveaways will be announced on the blog all year, so stay tuned.

One Quick Warning

If you are not logged in, your streak lives in that browser only.

Clear your cache or switch computers and it is gone. Logging in as a Plus member keeps your streak and points saved to your account instead of to one device.

If you have been quietly building a streak without realizing it, take time today to check out features you haven’t already used and gain additional points. Future you will be grateful.

Visit the Streaks page to see where your class stands.
