Although we’ve heard that many of your students eagerly anticipate the “First Five” engagement activities, it’s also a reality that some students are hesitant, putting up walls when it comes to these activities.
As educators, our approach to these students should be one of patience and understanding. It’s crucial to remember: we should never force students to answer or participate. Instead, provide opportunities and let them choose to connect.
Allow them the autonomy to buy into the “First Five” at their own pace. Tailoring the experience can be beneficial; think about components that might resonate with individual students. Even better, let them suggest an activity that aligns with their interests.
True engagement is a personal journey.
