Memes: “Not just fun, but fundamental.”

Today memes are on the menu and starting class with a smile isn’t just for fun… it can be fundamental, and a smart strategy.

Sharing a meme in the first five minutes isn’t only about getting a laugh, it’s about building the trust that follows. When we laugh together, it lowers our stress, makes us feel better, and helps students move into a mindset that’s ready for learning.

They’re the language our students speak.

Sharing one says, “Hey, I see your world, and I’m willing to meet you in it… even if I don’t fully understand the Fortnite and Roblox references.”

Memes aren’t just engagement tools either, they’re relationship building goldmines.

Reading tone. Picking up on social cues. Expressing humor appropriately. Understanding culture.

That’s a lot of learning packed into one image that takes less than one minute to unpack.

When we share our students’ language, even imperfectly, we show we care enough to connect.

If you want a quick, meaningful way to start class, try a meme.

It’s more than a laugh… It’s a fun, fast, and familiar path… to feeling connected.
