It’s Groundhog Day, and while none of us knows exactly what Punxsutawney Phil is going to predict, I have a feeling we might be in for a loooong winter. Whether he sees his shadow or not, here’s hoping today brings a little extra sunshine, laughter, and warmth into your classroom.

This week is also School Counselor Appreciation Week, and we want to pause and send some serious love to the incredible counselors who support students every single day. From helping students navigate friendships and emotions to offering guidance, encouragement, and calm during stressful moments, school counselors play a powerful role in shaping school culture. If you have a counselor in your building, take a moment this week to say thank you. It truly means more than you know.

And finally, today we’re kicking off Black History Month with special Black History editions. Throughout the rest of the month, you’ll continue to see meaningful quotes, powerful videos, and thoughtful moments woven into our daily resources as we celebrate Black leaders, history, and voices alongside all of our regular First Five favorites.

We’re so glad you’re here. We hope today’s First Five helps you and your students start the day feeling connected, inspired, and ready to learn.
